Top 6 Reasons You Are Not Losing Weight

Changing your body may feel impossible. You’ve done every diet and exercise plan and those old jeans still won’t fit. It doesn’t help when you take steps toward improving your habScale picits, and yet you still can’t seem to see any change in your body. I get it. That’s why I’m sharing the top reasons why your body may not be responding and what you can do about it.

1.You’re Stressed Out

Between your kids, your job, your family, and even traffic, your stress level could easily soar through the roof. When you start fuming with frustration, your body produces the chemical Cortisol, which signals your body to hold onto fat, particularly in your midsection.

What To Do: Release the pressure valve. When your kids are annoying, your boss is demanding, or you’re driving behind a clueless driver, take a deep breath. Take a minute to take three slow breaths to calm the chemicals and ease your emotions.

2. You’ve Plateaued

If you have been exercising for a while it can feel incredibly frustrating if your body fat won’t budge. Here’s the deal. Your body becomes efficient when it gets used to the same routine. It doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong, but it does mean you need to do something different.

What To Do: If you run, start lifting. If you love Zumba, add core and stabilization moves. If Yoga is your go-to, add strength training moves. The more you can surprise your body, the harder it has to work, burning calories and torching the fat. 3. You’re Hormones Need a Balance Check

There are so many factors that can throw your hormones out of whack from your age to your level of stress. When your hormones are out of balance, it can be harder to lose weight.

What To Do: It may be worth raising this topic during your next check-up and ask your doctor to test your levels. If you suspect that something is out of balance, educate yourself on factors that impact shifts in estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, like the foods you’re eating, what you’re drinking, and chemicals you’re exposed to on a regular basis.

4. You’re Pooped

When you’re tired, your brain cannot distinguish between hunger and exhaustion. That’s why on days that you’re tired, you may find yourself overeating. Those late night cravings are likely your body telling you to crawl into bed, not the refrigerator. What’s worse, is that your metabolism slows, making it harder to burn those extra portions.

What To Do: Sleep! Do your best to go to bed 10 minutes earlier until you’re at 8 hours. Adding meditation from #1 and exercise from #2 will also help you get a peaceful night’s rest.

5. But You’re Not Pooping

If you’re gut doesn’t work properly, you could be walking around with last week’s dinner. No wonder your belly feels bloated, you feel groggy, and you’re pants are super snug. This could happen for a number of reasons, but it’s smart to pay attention if you’re not eliminating at least once a day.

What To Do: Be sure to drink your water (recommended amount is one-half to one ounce for each pound you weigh) and eat your water (fruits and veggies, which also give you an excellent source of fiber). Give your body time to digest dinner before you head to bed. Lastly, get those healthy fats, including avocados, walnuts, olive oil, and coconut oil to help move things along.

6. You Don’t Need to Lose Weight

Yes. I said it. If you’re doing all these things: you’re eating healthy, working out regularly, meditating, and sleeping well, maybe weight isn’t the issue. It’s easy to get wrapped up in wanting to be a certain size, but maybe are just fine exactly the way you are.

What To Do:  Refocus your energy on healthy living and you may be surprised how the weight takes care of itself. Let go of the compulsion to check mirrors and scales to validate your progress. Enjoy the journey of moving, nourishing your mind and body, of feeling calm and centered. Isn’t that why you’re doing all this anyway? Make these actions your goal and you may just realize a result far better than your pant size: you may find a new freedom.
